Basic Breaks VS Advanced Breaks

Difference between basic and advanced breaks

Basic Breaks

  • Basic break management features let you know who's on break, who needs a break, and who already ate, even when the leader is in the back office.
  • Basic Breaks include one break per team member per day.

Advanced Breaks

  • Track multiple rest periods and meal breaks according to local labor laws
  • The Break Manager sorts and prioritizes the team based on their breaks:
    • Who needs to go on break next
    • When they need to go on a break

In this video, I’ll walk you through the difference between basic and advanced breaks. First, we’ll cover basic breaks, and then dive into the advanced break feature.
Starting with basic breaks. Each team member gets one break per day. For example, you’ll see Alex’s break is marked in red, indicating they need a 30-minute break. Once they complete it, the countdown changes to blue. You can customize this setting to adjust break times based on your store's needs, such as a break every 5 or 6 hours.
Moving on to advanced breaks. In this view, we can see multiple breaks per person based on the California break rules. For example, Rachel arrived at 6 A.M., so she gets a 30-minute or 10-minute break first. Once she’s done, the system shows when to send the next person, like Ezra, while ensuring there’s an hour buffer between breaks. The break manager tracks who has completed their breaks and who still needs them. You can customize according to employee types, whether they are minors, adults, or working long shifts. For example, Emma, working from 11 to 10, gets multiple breaks to match her long shift. These settings can be tailored to your store's specific requirements.

[00:01] Everyone from OneClick, this is Kevin. In this video I'm going to go over the difference between a basic breaks, which you'll see in this first part, as well as our advanced break feature that we have, and it will be kind of the second half of the video. So, in this case, you can tell that I'm on the basic breaks area, just because when I go through the team members part here, this filtering, when I click on it, it goes from auto to highest training, alphabetical, start time, stop time. If I was on the advanced feature, we would have this break manager function, and you can see what that looks like in a little bit.

[00:43] One thing you can do with the basic breaks, so basic breaks in a nutshell, is that each team member gets one break per day, so in this case for Alex, you can tell it's red, representing that they need a break, I can then send them on their 30-minute break, and then after they're done off that countdown, it'll go down to blue, and as a basic break, I can just kind of rotate between the two. And you can kind of customize that to be, in this case, it's every five hours you get a 30-minute break, maybe your store does six hours, and we can customize that there for the basic breaks.

[01:23] Now, through the magic of video editing, we switched it to an advanced break, so you can see that here, when I filter through here, you can see that it shows who's supposed to go next, in this case, it's the California break rules, but the idea is that you can have multiple breaks per person, so here you can see that I could— I know that Rachel is supposed to go next, or if I actually place people in their spots, you can see here that, “okay, Rachel got here first, because she got here at 6 A.M., so she should go on her 30-minute, or 10-minute break first”, I send her there, it also shows that over on this side, when I click it again, it shows that she's finished. And then the next person that should go on their 10 first, in this case, is Ezra, we could send him, and so on, and then as you can see down here, you can see that it says to wait an hour for that buffer time, kind of a thing, and then we could send the next person on break, so in this case, we'll send Rachel again, it'll then pop it down at the bottom saying, “hey, you got to wait another hour”, and then we could send that full thing, and then show that, “hey, Rachel is finished with all of her breaks, where Carson here has only done one break”, and then we just sent him on the next one, and then Ezra just has one, and you can see that reflected in the break manager.

[02:41] So, in a nutshell, advanced breaks, you can have multiple breaks per person per day, and be very customized on that, whether they're a minor, they get certain ones versus if they are an adult, if they work a really long amount of time, so like Emma here works from 11 to 10, which is a forever long shift, hence why she has a 10, a 30, a 10, a 30, and a 10, where normal people would have like a 10 and 30, and a 10, or maybe in your store you have specifically just, “hey, they need to have the 30 first” and we can flip that as well. So, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out and we can customize those breaks for you, or get to what you need based off if it's a basic break package, or if it's the advanced breaks.
